March in Ms O’Brien’s 2nd Class

2nd Class have been very busy since they returned to school at the beginning of March.
They celebrated World Book Day by writing their own books and then designing the cover for their book. There was a great variety of books from stories and facts about animals to autobiographies and books about the Titanic.
They have been very busy learning about procedural writing, reading and writing spells and guides. They wrote a spell for turning a teacher into a goat!
We explored the topic of Friendship this month, we discussed being a good friend and the children brainstormed ideas for what a good and bad friend does, says or how they make them feel. They used their information to write a recipe for friendship, they included ingredients such as happiness, kindness and laughter.
We discussed mistakes and decided that mistakes were ok and even a good sign when we are learning something new. We also spent some time talking about the good things about ourselves and put some positive words about ourselves onto our rainbow clouds.
In Maths we were learning all about money, the children have worked really hard on this topic. They were using coins to make different amounts of money, counting coins and calculating change. They got to try out their skills in our Fruit and Vegetable shops.
We used pointillism to create rainbow art for St.Patrick’s Day and we also drew chicks and designed eggs for the chicks. The children showed off their observation and drawing skills when they got a daffodil to draw, they all did a fantastic job!
Finally, in Gaeilge we finished off the month on a very exciting note today. Bhí na páistí ag lorg Ubh Chásca sa phiciúir agus bhain siad úsáíd as na frasaí nua.

Beannachtaí na Cásca ort!
